The fourth interview we did with Raimund Fritzl, our Head of Research & Development at A&T Wr. Neudorf / Austria.

How would you describe what you are doing in your job?

Raimund Fritzl: The focus of the R&D team is the development and qualification of new products for existing or new applications. We cover activities on both of our product groups décor laminates as well as prepregs. My daily business covers administrative work but fortunately still some amount of my time I can spend with fascinating new ideas.

What are your current goals?

Raimund: My major challenge now is managing through the tough time caused by Covid-19.

How do you encourage creative thinking within your department?

Raimund: Being creative and at the same time having a rigid frame of specifications and standards – that is demanding. It is essential to provide a certain amount of time for thinking about crazy ideas. With having that we were quite successful on our market with new products and applications.

What is the most difficult decision you have had to make recently and how did you come to that decision?

Raimund: I am quite used to make decisions in difficult situations on a daily base. The current situation is exceptional and we can all prove ourselves in making the right decisions.

How do you keep your team members keen and motivated?

Raimund: Having a motivated team is the key for creativity and positive output. A good way of motivation is giving confidence and responsibility to each team member.

What makes ISOVOLTA unique?

Raimund: Isovolta is a private company driven by unique and enthusiastic people. The Isovolta brand is made by all of us and very well recognized on all the markets we are in.

What are you most proud of?

Raimund: Watching aircrafts flying and knowing that products developed by the R&D team and produced in our plant are on board.

How do you balance work and life responsibilities?

Raimund: That’s a tough question which maybe should be asked to my family to get a correct answer…

Before Raimund joined Isovolta in 2002 as Head of R&D he worked in the electronic and automotive industry for all together 7 years. All positions were in R&D departments (except during his studies when Raimund worked as a postman during summer seasons).
